NaNoWriMo Stuffs

Good news (sort of):
  • When I last went to bed, I was 5,425 words behind; tonight when I go to bed, that gap will be 3,915 words. So-- I'm still woefully behind, but I'm gaining! I'm closing ground!

Bad news (Sort of):
  • I'm over a third quarter of the way through my wordcount, and my heroine still hasn't left home. If I don't do something, and quick, to move the ending closer, I'll end the month in the middle of the story, again. So I'm thinking of making the end of the story where the dark red dots are, on my map (q.v.).*

  • I'm completely stumped about what happens next, which is why I'm going to bed, now, while still 3,915 words behind. Maybe something will come to me in a dream... or something.

Trivial stuff (about my brain-- probably interesting only to me):
  • My attention span for storytelling-brainstorming-type-writing seems to have an utmost limit of 33 minutes at a time. Any longer than that, and my brain starts going squirrelly, and I feel the need to motor around the house, in circles, aimlessly, and turn on the tv or radio.

  • Setting the timer on my microwave for 30 minutes (or less) and writing until I hear the timer beep, is actually much more productive than making myself sit down for an hour at a time, and write; grouping shorter bouts of writing together, I can get almost 800 words out of my brain in an accumulated hour's time. Writing for an hour straight, I'd be lucky to get about 400 words.

  • I may invest in an egg timer that I can keep by the computer, so I don't have to keep motoring back and forth to the kitchen.

Too tired to make a poll now, but if I'm still stumped by tomorrow, I may ask you guys, then...

What was the site where you got your map again?

Does your computer play sound? If so, why not use an online timer to keep track of your time?
http://www.vickiblackwell.com/timer.html can be set as a countdown timer with a sound played at the end. It can run in the background while you write.

You might also be able to find a countdown timer to install if you aren't online 24/7 like some of us weirdos. ;-)
